Breast Reduction Surgeries - No one does it better
Breast reduction surgery also known as big breast surgery and reduction mammoplasty is done to reduce the breast volume or breast size. The objective of breast reduction surgery is to reduce the size of the breasts and to bring it in proportion with the rest of the body and to consolidate and improve the shape of the breasts thereby reducing the size, volume and weight of the breasts and lift the breasts which are otherwise quite big in size and un-proportionate to the rest of the body. Breast Lift is not possible when doing only breast liposuction.
Difference between Breast Reduction and Breast Lift Surgery
Breast reduction surgery is different from breast lift surgery. Breast reduction surgery results in reduction in volume of the breasts but in case of breast lift surgery or Mastopexy only the shape of the breasts will improve, sagging and drooping of the breasts will be corrected without changing in the volume or size of the breasts.
Breast reduction surgery is recommended to patients who have large and heavy breasts which are not in proportion to the rest of the body and restrict normal physical activity, are often the cause of shoulder pain, back ache, skin allergies etc. The surgery resizes the breasts in proportion to the rest of the body. Excess fat tissue and skin is removed from the breasts. In some cases only fat tissue removal is required.
Types of breast reduction procedures
The choice is made by the surgeon, in consultation with the patient on the basis of the breast size, amount of fat tissue, skin type and tone, skin condition etc. This decision is made at the time of physical consultation. All these procedures are FDA approved.
1. Breast Liposuction
This is most common. Recommended to patients whose breasts have fat cells. The excess fat tissue is removed by Liposuction. This is a minimal invasive surgery. To know more on liposuction please go through the Liposuction procedure. Scarring is the least. Breast Lift is not possible when doing only breast liposuction.
2. Vertical Scar Surgery
The incision encircles the areola and then goes down vertically to the base of the breast. No horizontal incision under the breast is made. Usually this is suitable for women having moderately large breasts. Scarring is there but quite less than the traditional breast reduction surgery.
3. Traditional Breast Reduction Surgery
This is suitable for large and heavy breasts. The incision goes vertically down the middle of the breast and then horizontally at the base of the breast. Inverted T incision.
The scarring flattens and fades to a great extent within a year. Exceptionally good surgical hands can minimize scarring to a great extent and provide balanced proportionate breasts.
Results of breast reduction procedure are visible immediately after the surgery and are long lasting.
Surgery can take between 2 to 4 hours to perform and is done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation and may require overnight hospitalization.
After the Breast surgery the patient may experience temporary pain, bruising, discomfort, decreased nipple sensation etc which are controlled by medication. A special supporting bra may be recommended to be worn for a few weeks.
Back to work in 3 to 5 days depending on the procedure and recovery. Complete internal healing in 3 to 4 weeks.
